TYPES OF MASSAGES

There are many different types of massages and some people find they may prefer one over another.  We are proud to provide a number of special massages to fit everyone's needs.  Our therapists focus mostly on medical pain relief massages but also incorporate the client's personal requests.

Deep Tissue Massage is a massage technique that focuses on the deeper layers of muscle tissue. It aims to release the chronic patterns of tension in the body through slow strokes and deep finger pressure on the contracted areas, either following or going across the fiber's of the muscles, tendons and fascia.

Deep tissue massage is used to release chronic muscle tension through slower strokes and more direct deep pressure or friction applied across the grain of the muscles not with the grain. Deep tissue massage helps to break up and eliminate scar tissue. Deep tissue massage usually focuses on more specific areas and may cause some soreness during or right after the massage.

Swedish massage uses firm but gentle pressure to promote relaxation, ease muscle tension. The term "Swedish Massage" refers to a variety of techniques specifically designed to relax muscles by applying pressure to them against deeper muscles and bones, and rubbing in the same direction as the flow of blood returning to the heart. The main purpose of Swedish massage is to increase the oxygen flow in the blood and release toxins from the muscles.

Swedish massage shortens recovery time from muscular strain by flushing the tissues of lactic acid, uric acid, and other metabolic wastes. It increases circulation without increasing heart load. It stretches the ligaments and tendons keeping them supple and pliable. Swedish massage also stimulates the skin and nervous system and soothes the nerves themselves at the same time. It reduces stress, both emotional and physical, and is suggested in a regular program for stress management. It also has many specific medical uses.

Shiatsu is a Japanese word. It means 'finger pressure'. A Shiatsu treatment does however incorporate the use not only of finger pressure, but also thumbs, palms, knees, forearms, elbows and feet. Pressure is applied to the areas of energy lines (meridians) to promote good health by 'stimulating the bodys energy flow (Ki)'. This is a clothed modality. Please where loose gym like clothing, also done on a mat on the floor.

Therapeutic Massage  - This type of session may retain a large relaxation element to it but advanced techniques are likely to be used for pain and chronic health issues. A therapeutic or clinical massage practitioner will see a client very frequently for the first few weeks or months. This might include half hour massages three times a week, or weekly hour massages for a couple of months. Advanced techniques such as deep tissue massage and trigger point therapy may be used in a more clinical setting.

Relaxation Massage - A relaxation massage is a rather straightforward session using classic Swedish massage techniques. The massage therapist will use light to medium pressure, depending on the client's preference, and the intent of the session is to help the client relax.

Reiki - A Reike treatment is a wonderful way of achieving deep relaxation and quietness of mind  and works by balancing energy on all levels enhancing the body's own natural healing capacities.

Aromatherapy is a form of alternative medicine that uses volatile plant materials, known as essential oils, and similar aromatic compounds from plants, for the purpose of improving a person's mood, cognitive function or health.

When you inhale essential oil molecules, messages are transmitted to the limbic system and affect heart rate, stress level, blood pressure, breathing, memory, digestion, and the immune system. Essential oils are also believed to be absorbed through the skin. Each essential oil has different healing properties. For example, some calm while others energize. Here are some widely used essential oils and their properties:


Calming - chamomile, lavender, geranium

Uplifting - ylang ylang, clary sage, rose, neroli

Energizing - rosemary

Cleansing - rosemary

Decongesting - eucalyptus, pine, tea tree

I had never been to a chiropractor before, I always was a little afraid. I went last Monday because I was having bad back and hip pain. I wish I had gone years ago. After my first appointment, I was pain free. If you have ever been afraid to go, don't be. The treatment doesn't hurt at all and you will feel the results right away. This doctor does not pressure you to commit to several appointments during a week like some chiropractors I've read reviews about. The doctor is very nice and tells you everything he will be doing. I will continue to use this office if I need to go back.
